Guitar

Roy High is proud to offer a complete guitar course. There are two classes in our program: Beginning and Advanced.

Beginning Guitar is designed to teach the fundamentals of guitar. We stress the basics of tuning (with and without a tuner), chord symbol reading, rhythm reading, basic note reading, strumming patterns and finger picking. Tabulature is also covered. Each semester an in-class recital is held to showcase student progress.

Advanced Guitar. The class picks up where the beginning class left off. The purchase of a method book is required. Students are taught note reading, rhythm reading, lead sheet symbol reading and ensemble playing. Many different styles are covered in the course, from classical to modern rock. In the second quarter basic composing techniques are covered and the students compose a song of their own. Each student writes and records their piece. Instructor approval is required for students to enroll in the course (or successful completion of Beginning Guitar).

NOTE TO ALL BEGINNING GUITAR CLASSES: MIDTERM PLAYING EXAM IS SCHEDULED FOR 19 SEPTERMBER!!!!
